When we say we love all dogs, we mean it - even the wild ones.

It's kind of crazy to think about the fact that dogs didn't exist until only a few thousand years ago. It was only around 15,000 years ago that wolves and people became friends, and that eventually led us to having a neighbor with an unbearably yappy Shih Tzu that can enter a standard-sized pocket. But that's besides the point. What we're trying to say is that we've come a long way with dogs in such a short time (compared to the literal gigantic history of life on Earth), that we tend to forget the rest of the canine population.

It's not like with cats, who are constantly compared to other big felines - calling void cats "house panthers", nicknaming the orange cats "domestic tigers", and affectionately joking that bobcats are too small to be a big cat and should be pspspsed inside. Cat fans have the entire wild feline population in their minds all the time, but we think it's not the same with our beloved doggo devotees community. We don't hold a lot of place in our thoughts to wolves, foxes, or hyenas.

We're here to give all these canine cuties a chance to invade the doggo space in your hearts - because they deserve belly rubs too. Probably. Don't go out and try to give them some. But it doesn't change the fact that all dogs, wild animals or not, deserve a belly rub. Just… you don't have to be the one to give it. Don't risk your life for it. Here's some fun information about the aardwolf. They're shy, they're nocturnal, and are sort of a cousin to the hyena. Like them, they're native to Africa. It is unique for being completely insectivorous, meaning they primarily slurp up termites with their long, sticky tongues. A single aardwolf can eat up to 250,000 to 300,000 harvester termites in a single night (beat that, anteater!). Instead of destroying the mounds like other insectivores, the aardwolf carefully laps termites from the ground and leaves the mound intact so the colony can recover, which is a great way to leave their food sources intact.
More food-related facts are that because their diet consists entirely of soft termites, their back cheek teeth have evolved into flattened pegs, making them unable to crush bone. They probably have a very gentle smile. Aardwolves also rarely ever drink water, since they get all the moisture they need directly from the termites they consume
The name aardwolf translates to "earth wolf" in Afrikaans and Dutch, which is a reference to its underground burrowing habits. When threatened, the aardwolf bristles its long back mane, making it appear up to 70% larger. It can also emit a foul-smelling musk to ward off predators, much like a skunk.
